Best Coffee in Manhattan

Best Coffee in Manhattan I was careful with the headline because this article is solely about the best tasting cups of coffee in the city. Beware of coffee bars that have beautiful art on the walls, free wifi, clean bathrooms, places to sit, but disappoint with average coffee.

And lastly I’m not including any places that are well-know for selling good muffins, scones or pastries but pair with mediocre, over-priced coffee.

The shops listed below provide a selection of quality beans, each variety custom roasted, freshly ground and expertly brewed. Since all the shops are excellent, I have decided to list them geographically from downtown going north.

Oren’s
Excellent coffee shop in business since 1986.
Financial District, 135 William St, at Fulton St.
Other Location: Upper East Side, 985 Lexington Ave., at 71st St.
Pastry Upper East Side I love Lady M Creations, 41 E 78th St, near Madison Avenue.

La Colombe
You won’t find T-shirts, CDs, or coffee mugs, so they can concentrate on coffee.
Tribeca, 319 Church St, at Lispenard St.
Other locations: SoHo, and NoHo.
Pastry SoHo I go to Balthazar Bakery, on Spring Street near Crosby.

Roasting Plant
Beans stored in clear pneumatic tubes are swooshed to grinder for the freshest
cup of coffee. Seats 4 people.
Lower East Side, 81 Orchard St, bet. Broome & Grand Street.
Best cupcakes nearby at Sugar Sweet Sunshine, 126 Rivington St
Other Location: 75 Greenwich Ave, corner of 7th Ave.

Stumptown
Brings West Coast flavor from Portland to the Big Apple.
Greenwich Village, 30 West 8th St, MacDougal Street.
Great cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery, West 10th Street & Bleecker.
Other Location: Ace Hotel, 18 West 29 St.

9th Street Espresso
Specializes in hand-crafted espresso, and sells brewed coffee.
Chelsea, Chelsea Market, 75 9th Avenue, at 15th St.
Other Locations: Lombardy Hotel, 109 East 56th St.

Irving Farm
Local roaster from Hudson Valley, New York.
Midtown East, Grand Central Terminal, 42nd Street & Vanderbilt, Lower Level
Other Locations: 71 Irving Place, bet. East 18-19 St., and 88 Orchard St, at Broome.

Best Coffee in Manhattan gives you the best tasting coffee places when you need that caffeine kick and flavor all in the same cup. I will update this posting when I discover new openings.
