Best Burgers NYC

Best Burgers NYC is a very competitive arena, pitting some old-school burger flippers versus the new-schoolers. I believe Shake Shake started the trend to quality burgers and many, many new restaurants keep opening and continue to expand this iconic meal. I have not placed them in any special order, so a visit to all 7 places is needed, for you to declare the winner in this burger throwdown.

Minetta Tavern
Must try the most expensive burger in NYC, the Black Label sells for $26. Insiders say in addition to the quality dry aged rib steak blend from Pat LaFrieda, it’s the clarified button dripped over the top that makes it taste so great. Very famous writers bar, with original outside look from the 1950’s, with new updated interior, kitchen and staff. 113 Macdougal Street, bet. West 3rd Street and Bleecker St. Greenwich Village

Shake Shack
Started in 2004 by veteran restaurateur Danny Meyers who owns the very upscale restaurant Union Square Cafe. This was one of the first burgers that was fresh, with high-quality ingredients, at a reasonable price. Go to their first location in Madison Square Park, at 23rd Street and Madison Avenue, check out other locations around the city. Flatiron District

PJ Clarke
the real deal in the world of quality burgers. Opened in 1868 this restaurant is one of the oldest in New York City, and an iconic institution with a genuine New York presence. Nat King Cole called their bacon cheeseburger, the Cadillac of burgers in 1950. Serves an excellent Bloody Mary. 915 3rd Avenue, bet. East 55th & 56th Sts. Midtown East

The Little Owl
Joey Campanaro’s signature dish is the delicious gravy meatball slider, but if you prefer a traditional hamburger, you will love every bite. A tiny gem of a place located on a quiet tree lined street. Make sure you check out the Friends apartment house opening shot from the television show. 90 Bedford St. at Grove Street. Greenwich Village.

Burger Joint
Have been coming to this delicious burger dive for years, the original location is in the upscale Parker Meridien Hotel. It’s tricky to find this speakeasy type restaurant, which adds to the fun, it’s hidden behind a curtain, just ask, mostly everyone knows the secret location! No alcohol sold in the hotel location. Parker Meridien Hotel, 119 West 56, bet. 6th & 7th Aves. Midtown West. And 33 West 8th Street, bet. 6th Avenue & Macdougal St. Greenwich Village

The Spotted Pig
Owned by celebrity chef April Bloomfield, the cheeseburger is the signature dish for the restaurants Michelin star. 314 West 11th Street, bet. Hudson & Greenwich Street. Greenwich Village.
