What is a food tour?
Discover New York walking tours to visit different neighborhoods like Greenwich Village, SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown and the Brooklyn Bridge. A walking tour allows you to experience a new area using all your senses. A food tour in particular allows you to eat in local shops and restaurants, with iconic foods that are loved by New Yorkers.
You will smell that delicious aroma going into the cupcake shop, and pizzeria. And you will see famous landmarks, attractions and learn about its history and culture on each tour.
Who conducts the tours?
All of our tours are conducted by Bruce Scher, a native New Yorker, licensed and professional New York City tour guide.
Are your tours appropriate for children?
All tours are fine for children ages 8 and up. If your child is younger and won’t be eating on the tour, there is no charge.
How much walking is involved?
Tours last 2 hours, we walk at a moderate pace and also provide rest stops and bathrooms along the way. Average distance is 1 mile.
Does the Food Tour include a full meal?
While you will be eating at 4 restaurants and shops, you will not sit down for a full meal at any one restaurant. Food portions are similar to eating an appetizer at each venue, and in total a full meal will be consumed.
What happens if it rains or snows?
The tours are held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, we go inside of all the establishments on the tour. Walking tours will only be cancelled if the weather is severe enough to prohibit walking safely and comfortably.
What is your cancellation policy?
Customers with 48 hours or more ahead of scheduled tour time can cancel their tour for a full refund, or reschedule. Customers with 24 hours ahead of scheduled tour time can be rescheduled, but not refunded. No shows on day of tour can not be refunded or rescheduled.
Are tours offered only in English?
We only offer tours in English at this time.
What types of foods are served on the tour?
For an idea of what types of eateries we will visit, a list of the restaurants and shops can be found on the site.
What restaurants will we visit on the tour?
Included in the tour description, you will find the names of the places visited along with their specialty. Food locations can change without notice.
Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay cash?
Tickets can be purchased in advance, or paid in cash on the day of the tour.
When is the best time to take the tour?
We offer our food tours for lunch and dinner. Depending on your schedule, and weather preferences, please check our schedule for specific days and times.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) have dietary restrictions (e.g. vegetarian, etc) when you purchase your tickets, we can provide alternatives.
Our Greenwich Village Food tour is all vegetarian.
Are there kosher options on the tour?
No, we do not offer kosher options at this time.
Is the tour wheel chair and baby stroller accessible?
All restaurants and shops are wheelchair and baby stroller friendly and accessible.
Does the tour leader accept gratuities?
Gratuities are greatly appreciated, although not mandatory. The standard gratuity in the service industry is 15%-20%.
Are there any beverages served on the tour?
Beverages are not included, and can be easily purchased along the way.
Are cameras allowed on the tour?
Yes. Cameras and filming are allowed during the tour.
Do the tours end at the same place we meet?
All tours end at different locations from the starting area. Email us for the ending location.
Is there parking nearby the tour meeting point?
Yes, there is parking located near the meeting points.
Can I book a private tour?
We offer our public tours for private tours, and can customize desired foods or areas.
Do you offer group rates?
For groups over 10 persons we offer a group discount of 10%.
